Shop Local Save Land

Delaware Highlands Conservancy, celebrating 20 yearsThe Delaware Highlands Conservancy (DHC) is the local land trust serving the four counties of the Upper Delaware region. Pike and Wayne County in Pennsylvania, and Sullivan and Delaware counties in New York. To date they have conserved 14,000 acres through conservation easements. It is an organization with a mission that I think is critically important. I have been a supporter, volunteer and now a board member since returning to the area 8 years ago.

Several years ago the DHC started the Shop Local Save Land initiative to connect the residents of, and visitors to, the Delaware highlands to the food and forest products that are produced locally. The thinking behind the Shop Local Save Land initiative is that if we can support our local farmers and forest owners those farms and forests will be less likely to be lost to development. On the website http://delawarehighlands.org/shoplocalsaveland you can download a pdf of both the Farm and Forest Guide. The Farm Guide has everything from CSA farms and farmers markets to U pick farms. The Forest Guide lists Homebuilders, Furniture makers, Loggers, Sawmills and More. It is a great resource to find out what is still produced right in our backyard.

Now the DHC have produced this video to help spread the word about Shop Local Save Land. It is a beautiful video that really captures the great landscapes and farmscapes of our region. Hillside Woodworks is proud to be featured in the video. Check it out and the Shop Local Save Land guides.
